This May, 17&Central is inviting you to come together in celebration of the 80th anniversary of VE Day—a powerful moment in history that reminds us of the strength found in unity and resilience. More than just a commemoration, this special occasion offers our community the chance to connect, support one another, and engage with The Samaritans of Waltham Forest, our charity of the year.
Why VE Day Matters
VE Day, or Victory in Europe Day, marks the end of World War II in Europe, a triumph of peace over conflict, and a testament to the unbreakable spirit of communities across the world. Eighty years on, we celebrate not only history but the importance of standing together as a community, supporting those around us, and fostering meaningful connections.

Event 1: Sip, Chat & Celebrate with the Samaritans

Enjoy an afternoon of coffee, tea, treats, and heartfelt conversations with volunteers from The Samaritans, as we honour 80 years of VE Day. This gathering is a chance to relax, reflect, and connect with others while supporting a vital cause.

Event 2: Make VE Day Bunting with The Samaritans

Calling all kids, families, and creativity lovers! Get your crafting skills ready and join volunteers from The Samaritans to make colourful VE Day bunting. Whether you’re young or young-at-heart, this hands-on activity is the perfect way to express your creativity and contribute to a vibrant community display.
About The Samaritans
For 70 years, The Samaritans have been providing lifesaving emotional support to people struggling with their mental health. Whether through phone calls, messages, or local outreach, their volunteers are always there to listen—offering hope in times of despair. All proceeds from our VE Day events will go towards supporting The Samaritans of Waltham Forest, ensuring more people in our community get the help they need.
